How to Style Mom Jeans

Mom jeans are a style that I love and I wear my pair almost every other day (with washes in between I promise!). Before I got a pair of my own, I had admired people who wore them but it was one of those styles I had no idea how I would be able to style only ever really wearing black skinny jeans, and I had no idea if they would suit me. However once I tried on a pair and loved the way they look I had to buy them. I would really recommend getting them from TopShop or anywhere else that has sizes by waist and length so that they fit in the right places and are baggy in the right places. I also found that they really go with pretty much anything you want! I have a few favourite looks that I love wearing to share with you today so I hope this post helps.

This jumper is from H&M and I was drawn to it by its bright colours that really shouldn't work but somehow do in a weird, but fab, kind of way. I know some people probably won't like it, finding the colour combination too miss matched but that is exactly what I like about it. It is so different to what I usually to wear, all black with a bit of grey thrown in to change it up, that it really refreshes my wardrobe and I love anything that brings colour to the dark mornings. I love the fit of this jumper too. It is quite boxy which looks great with mom jeans as it stops just on the waistband of the jean which also makes it very flattering. I always get so many complements on this when I wear it which is always so lovely!

When wearing something that is loose fitting like mom jeans, a tighter fitting top can compliment them really well. Here I have some cheap high neck tops from Primark which I bought to pair with these jeans. I am really impressed with these tops as they were £4 from Primark and they have lasted really well. When buying something from Primark, I always get it with the thought that it is likely to fall apart after a few washes but so far so good! The stitching is becoming a bit loose at the sleeves but apart from that they have held together really well. They are also not see through which is always a bonus as I found quite a few high necks were.

Of course, it is totally optional to have the hanging straps out like I have here but I have heard that this is not a popular look... no idea why! (whoops!)
Whilst t-shirts may seem plain and boring, a good one styles with a good pair of jeans make an outfit. The best kind of t-shirt to tuck into mom jeans are the ones that are structured. Lizzy Hadfield from the blog Shot From The Street did a great video, testing out different t-shirts which I found really helpful. In it, she described how she liked her t-shirts to stick slightly out from the jean which is exactly the look that I like. This top from H&M is perfect for that as you can really book it out or have it slightly less like in the photos above. I really want to get some more t-shirts like this in some more colour ( I recently got a lovely, light pink t-shirt from New Look which I will be featuring in another post soon) and they are so versatile. You can wear them with jeans, tucked into a skirt, under a jumpsuit, and pyjamas... pretty much any time you like! You really can't go wrong with a good t-shirt.

So those are my everyday ways of styling mom jeans. They seem a bit out there at first but as soon as you start trying out different tops you realise that they pretty much go with anything you like! What is your favourite thing to wear this Christmas?
