Christmas Makeup Luxuries

Did everyone have a good Christmas? I had such a lovely day even though all I really did was sit with my family and watch film after film but it was perfect. One factor which added to the magic of the day was how generous and amazing my family were. I got so many things that were completely unexpected and really made my day. Three of those gifts included a Mac and Charlotte Tilbury lipstick plus the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette. I don't really have any high-end makeup as, whilst I would love to get so many different palettes and lipsticks, I  can never justify spending that much money especially as I am supposed to be trying to save. The palette and Charlotte Tilbury lipstick were so unexpected I think I may have let out a squeal of excitement mixed with a bit of astonishment.

Am I too late to get on the Velvet Teddy craze? Maybe so but to be honest with you I wasn't a big fan a year or so ago when everyone seemed to be obsessed with it. However, I was in MAC buying another lipstick for a friend for Christmas when I picked it up at random and tested it. It was one of those moments when you go "uhhhhhh", look at your mum who responds with "ohhhhh". I reply with "Shall I get it?" and your mum says "I'll get it for your Christmas." and that is that. It really was gorgeous. Maybe my taste in lipsticks has changed in the last year or my skin tone is different, I have no idea but I can say that I am in love with it now. It is a dark pink, rose colour which is perfect for everyday as it is darker than my natural lipcolour but it is still a nude. It is very smooth, creamy and not at all drying on the lips so perfect for in winter when you tend to get quite dry lips.

Oh my word. That is all I can say. Well, not really but I think it sums up Charlotte Tilbury makeup very well. I have admired Charlotte Tilbury for so long, dreaming about her lipsticks in particular as they are absolutely stunning just like all her makeup. Her stand in John Lewis is definitely my favourite to wander around, stroking all the palettes and lipsticks I wish I could have. This is part of their matte revolution range but it doesn't dry or flatten your lips like some mattes can as it still has a lot of movement. Charlotte Tilbury describes her matte lipsticks as a "Luminous Modern Matte" which is, of course, the perfect way to describe it. The colour is absolutely gorgeous and it is inspired by Victoria Beckham, hense the name. With my skin tone, it looks quite brown/pink but I would still count is as a nude colour, if that makes any sense? Lipsticks do tend to come up a lot darker on me than other people as I am quite pale but if you check out the website, it has a picture of the lipstick on lots of different skin tones which is so helpful if you don't know whether or not it will suit you.

Blow, Nudie, Commando, Tempted, Instinct, Lethal

Pre-Game, Extra Bitter, Faith, Lockout, Magnet, Blackjack

Have you ever seen such beautiful packaging on a palette? (If you haven't guessed already I do love makeup that has stunning packaging). This is actually my first high-end eyeshadow palette so I was really interested to see how it faired against drugstore palettes, and I am sad(ish) to say that it is so much better than anything I have used before. Obviously, I cannot compare it other high-end products but it is definitely much smoother and more pigmented than the cheaper palettes I have tried. The colours in the Ultimate Basics palette are perfect for me. I love using these warm browns and pink, almost purple tones as I think they really complement blue eyes. Extra Bitter is the perfect shade for winter. I used this on the outer edge of my eye along with Nudie and Tempted in my crease, followed by Blow on the rest of my eyelid. I think that this is the perfect palette for people like me who have never really used high quality eyeshadow but want to buy their first palette as it really does what it says on the tin. It is the "Ultimate Basics".

That sums up the makeup I got this Christmas. All three items luxurious and all three items the perfect present. What luxuries did you get this year?
