Race For Life 2016

17:30

Every year, I always say I must do the race for life this year but I never actually do but this year I managed to get my but into gear and sign up! I ran the race this morning and after having a nice hot shower, I'm sitting down, watching the Wimbledon Final and writing this post. I ran the 5k race this year with my friend and hopefully next year I will be able to do the 10k - or the mud run which looks so fun! When you sign up for race for life, you get sent a little pack that has your race number, a speech bubble to write a message for those who are running for someone, and leaflets with information about the event (I did try to set up an online donation page but it sadly won't work for some reason but please click here to donate to the race for life page).

I feel like I didn't really get hyped up enough and felt that I should have prepared more and got involved in the whole event a lot more, encouraged more people to take part and I left a lot of things to the last minute (as you can see in the photos I am not wearing my race for life t-shirt as it didn't arrive in time!). So next year I want to have a lot more fun with the event  - maybe dress up a bit (for some reason I really want to wear a tutu???) and raise some more money for this amazing cause.

Cancer is such an evil thing that affects so many people - the people we love and the people who care and support their loved ones and its hard to come across someone who hasn't been affected by this horrid disease in some way. Today, two people in four will survive cancer, a statistic that seemed unreachable a few years ago, but cancer research aim so raise this to three in four in the next twenty years, and then hopefully we will all survive.

At the race, there was a large amount of people running, walking and jogging for this cause, all there in their pink (I saw a couple of pink flamingos too) ready to race a fight cancer. The weather wasn't great but that didn't stop everyone there from doing a slightly embarrassing warm up and then all heading off the complete the race. There were people there of all ages, running for so many people and it was really lovely to see so many people coming together for a great cause, and that was only the people in my area so think of how many people there are running all over the UK. There were stalls there selling food and some bouncy castles which I think were mainly for the kids *insert sad face* and everyone who was there had volunteered which is so amazing. After the race, we were all given a water bottle, a pain au chocolat and a little army chain to say that we are part of the Pink Army which is so lovely.

It is such a great cause so please donate to Cancer Research and if you didn't race this year, definitely sign up for 2017, you will have a great time and make such a big difference. Have you taken part in raising money for a charity?
